Explained

The guides answer what order a franchise goes in. These answer the questions underneath: whether chronological order is ever right, which prequels punish you for starting early, and what is genuinely safe to skip. Every example is computed from the 112 guides and lists on this site rather than asserted.

A watch order is a recommendation, and a recommendation is worth exactly as much as the reasoning behind it. Each guide here takes a position on one franchise and gets on with it. These three pages set out the reasoning that sits underneath all of them at once.

They are arguments rather than lists, and every example in them is drawn from the same data the franchise pages run on. When one of these says a prequel punishes you for starting there, the table below it names the titles and the years between them, built from the release dates the rest of the site already uses. Nothing is asserted here and then left unsupported.

There are three because three questions come up on almost every franchise. The rest of the arguments are local to one series, and those stay on the guide for that series, where the examples already are.
