Privacy

The short version

There are no accounts, so there is nothing to sign up for and no name, email or password to lose. What you have marked as watched never leaves your device. It is stored in your browser and this site never receives it. We could not tell you what you have watched if you asked us.

The site measures traffic. That is the only personal data it handles, and it is covered below in full. It has also applied to carry advertising, which will use cookies when it starts. None is being served yet, and what it will mean is set out below, before it happens rather than after.

Who is responsible

watchinorder.in is the Data Fiduciary for the processing described here, in the sense the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 uses that term. Questions, requests and complaints go to watchinorder.in@gmail.com, which is read by the person who runs the site.

What stays on your device

Watch progress, saved franchises, your chosen theme, your last-used ordering and the country you pick for streaming listings are kept in your browser’s local storage. They are never transmitted and never seen by us. Clearing your browser data deletes them permanently, and there is a reset control on your list that does the same thing deliberately.

You can save that progress to a file from your list, to keep a backup or move it to another device. That file is written by your browser straight to your own disk. It is not uploaded, and we never see it. We do not back your progress up; you can.

Share links are the one exception, and only if you create one. A share link encodes how many titles you have ticked off in each franchise: counts, nothing else. It contains no name, no account and no record of which specific titles you watched.

What is measured

One thing: Vercel Web Analytics counts page views, so we know which guides people actually read. It sets no cookies and creates no persistent identifier for you. It cannot recognise you between visits, and it cannot follow you to any other site.

Hosting the site also produces ordinary server logs containing IP addresses, which is unavoidable in serving a web page at all.

If you would rather not be counted at all, turn this on. It takes effect immediately and on every page, and nothing is sent from this browser afterwards.

Cookies

This site sets no cookies today. Not the page-view counter, not your watch progress, not your saved list. Those stay in your browser’s local storage and are never transmitted, and no advertising script is loaded on this page.

That is about to change in one respect. This site has applied to carry advertising through Google AdSense. Nothing is being served yet. When the application is accepted, advertising will be the one thing here that uses cookies, and the paragraph above will be rewritten rather than quietly given an exception. What follows is what that will mean, published before it happens rather than after.

Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads. Google’s use of advertising cookies lets it and its partners serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and to other sites on the internet.

Other third-party vendors and ad networks may also place or read cookies, web beacons or similar technologies on this site, and may use your IP address and other identifiers to select, deliver and measure ads.

Turning personalised ads off

These controls work now and will keep working when ads appear here. You can opt out of personalised advertising by Google at Google Ads Settings, and out of personalisation by many other vendors at aboutads.info.

In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland you will be asked first. A consent notice will appear before any advertising loads, and it will carry a refuse button beside the accept one rather than a screen deeper. That is a choice about how the notice is built: declining should cost you no more effort than agreeing.

If you decline, the ads you see will be non-personalised. They are chosen from the page you are on rather than from anything about you, and nothing is used to build a profile of you.

Everywhere else there will be no such notice, and opting out through the links above stops the personalisation rather than the advertising. You will still see ads. They will simply be chosen without reference to what you have browsed.

How Google uses the data it collects from sites that run its ads is described in Google’s own notice for partner sites.

If the application is refused, this section goes and the no-cookies wording comes back. Either way you will not have to guess which applies: the review date at the top of this page changes when this notice does.

Your rights

The DPDP Act gives you the right to ask what personal data of yours is being processed, to have it corrected or completed, to have it erased, to nominate someone to exercise these rights if you cannot, and to have a grievance answered.

Write to watchinorder.in@gmail.com and you will get a reply. Be aware of what that can and cannot achieve here: with no accounts, we hold nothing that identifies you personally, so in most cases the honest answer to “what do you have on me” is genuinely nothing. Page-view counts are not linked to any identifier, so there is nothing there to look up either.

If a complaint is not resolved to your satisfaction, you can escalate it to the Data Protection Board of India.

Children

This site is not directed at children and asks no one their age. It does nothing to build a profile of any visitor. If you believe a child’s personal data has been processed here, write to watchinorder.in@gmail.com and it will be dealt with.

Other people’s services

Links out of this site, to Wikipedia or a studio or anywhere else, are covered by that site’s own privacy policy, not this one. The site is hosted by Vercel, who also provide the page-view counts, and who operate under their own terms.

The “find where to watch” button on each title is one of those links. It opens a JustWatch search for that title in the country you have chosen. Nothing is sent anywhere to build it. The link is assembled in your browser from the title on the page, and JustWatch only learns you visited once you click. These are not affiliate links. This site earns nothing from them, and if that ever changes it will be labelled on the page rather than only here.

Changes

When this notice changes materially the date at the top changes with it. There is no mailing list to tell you, because there is no mailing list.
