Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem
A small-town sequel widely regarded as the low point of both franchises.

Can you skip Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem?
Yes, on a first watch. It is self-contained, and nothing in the main Alien story depends on it. Come back to it later if you want more. Show only the Alien essentials.
The lowest point in either franchise, and the one film on this site that is hard to recommend on any grounds. Nothing depends on it, nothing continues from it, and the crossover line ended here.
Its most discussed problem is literal: you cannot see it. The film is lit so dimly that whole sequences resolve into noise, and the complaint was common enough that the cinematographer publicly defended the choice as a way of concealing the suit work. Whatever the intent, the result is a creature feature in which the creatures are a rumour.
The rest is worse. It moves the fight to a small Colorado town and spends its runtime on teenagers whose subplots would be thin in a film with nothing else to do, and it stages two sequences, one in a maternity ward, that exist to be transgressive and achieve nothing else. The Predator is reduced to a cleaner sent to tidy up the previous film's mess, which is the most interesting idea in it and is dropped almost immediately.
No version of a first watch should include this. If you are completing the set, it is ninety-four minutes and it is the last of them.
