Demon Slayer watch order

Sequential, with one arc that exists twice and catches almost everybody.

Updated 8 August 2026 · 7 titles tracked

Demon Slayer runs in a straight line, so most of this is simple. Season one, then each arc as it aired, then the films.

The trap is Mugen Train, which exists as a 2020 film and as seven television episodes released a year later. They are the same story. A great many people watch the film, start the next season, and find themselves watching the whole thing again.

Everything, in order

Release order is story order. The Mugen Train entries are alternatives, not a sequence.

Film or episodes?

Either. Not both.

The film is the tighter version and the one that broke box-office records. The television arc re-cuts it across seven episodes and adds an opening episode about Rengoku that the film had no room for, plus smaller scenes from the manga.

If you want the best version of the story, watch the film. If you care about Rengoku specifically, the episodes give him noticeably more.

The rest is straightforward

After Mugen Train comes the Entertainment District Arc (11 episodes), then Swordsmith Village (11), then Hashira Training (8). Each aired as its own season and each continues directly from the last.

Hashira Training is short and mostly setup. It exists to get the pieces in position for the final arc, and it is the one stretch where the series is visibly waiting.

The ending is a film trilogy

The final arc is being told as three theatrical films rather than a season. Infinity Castle arrived in 2025 and took over 790 million dollars worldwide; the remaining two are still to come.

That means the story is not finished yet, which is worth knowing before starting a series that otherwise looks complete.

Common questions

What order should I watch Demon Slayer in?

Season 1, then Mugen Train, either the film or the seven episodes, not both, then Entertainment District, Swordsmith Village, Hashira Training, and the Infinity Castle films.

Should I watch the Mugen Train movie or the episodes?

The film is tighter and is the version that broke records. The episodes add an opening episode about Rengoku and a few scenes from the manga. They are the same story, pick one.

Do I need to watch Mugen Train at all?

Yes. It continues directly from season one and the arcs after it assume you have seen it.

Is Demon Slayer finished?

Not yet. The final arc is being released as three films, of which Infinity Castle (2025) is the first.
