Nothing in Tarantino's filmography connects in plot, so order is a matter of taste rather than necessity. What matters is not opening on the wrong one.
He counts nine films, because he treats Kill Bill as a single film split for release — which is how he keeps arriving at the "ten films then I retire" number.

Start with Pulp Fiction or Inglourious Basterds
Pulp Fiction is the obvious one. Three stories out of order, the Palme d'Or, and the film that made an entire decade of cinema imitate him. If you only ever watch one, this.
Inglourious Basterds is the better argument that he is a great director rather than a great writer of dialogue. The opening farmhouse scene is twenty minutes of two men talking and it is unbearable in the best way.
Reservoir Dogs is the debut, and it is the lesser film. Starting there gives you a rougher version of everything Pulp Fiction does properly.
Which one to skip
Death Proof, and he would agree — he has called it his worst film. It was made as half of the Grindhouse double bill and it shows.
Everything else is worth watching. Jackie Brown is the one most often underrated: his warmest, most patient film, and the only one adapted from someone else's novel.
Is Kill Bill one film or two?
Both, depending on who you ask. It was shot as one film, ran too long, and was split for release. Tarantino counts it as one, which is why his filmography is "nine films" rather than ten.
Watch them together if you can. Volume 1 is the action half and Volume 2 is the talking half, and neither is satisfying alone.
What is he doing next?
The Adventures of Cliff Booth — a sequel to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood — arrives in November 2026, but Tarantino is not directing it. He wrote it, and after Brad Pitt asked permission to find another director, David Fincher took the job. It does not count toward his ten.
