Can you skip Camp Cretaceous?
Yes, on a first watch. It is self-contained, and nothing in the main Jurassic Park story depends on it. Come back to it later if you want more. Show only the Jurassic Park essentials.
Skippable, and nothing in the films depends on it. Fifty episodes is close to nineteen hours, which is longer than all seven films combined, and it is aimed squarely at a younger audience than any of them.
What makes it more interesting than it sounds is the timing. The first season runs concurrently with Jurassic World: six teenagers are at an adventure camp on the other side of the island on the day everything fails, and the park's collapse reaches them as distant alarms, abandoned monorails and a staff that has already evacuated. Watching a disaster film from the position of people nobody came back for is a genuinely good idea, and the series uses it for a full season before the premise runs out.
After that it becomes a survival serial, then a conspiracy one, and the quality is uneven across five seasons. The animation is inexpensive and the dinosaurs are considerably less frightening than in the films, which is appropriate for the audience and a real limitation for anyone else.
Watch it if you have a child who liked the films, or if you want the island's fall from a different angle. Chaos Theory continues these characters and is pitched slightly older.
