Can you skip Ant-Man and the Wasp?
Yes, on a first watch. It is self-contained, and nothing in the main MCU story depends on it. What it does leave behind is two scenes during the credits. In chronological order, reaching it takes about 36h 48m of essential viewing across 17 titles. Show only the MCU essentials.
Skippable with one qualification: the post-credits scene is the setup for Endgame's entire plot, and it is thirty seconds long. Watch that if nothing else.
The film itself is deliberately small and arrived two months after Infinity War, which was either a palate cleanser or an anticlimax depending on your mood. It is a San Francisco caper about recovering a woman from a subatomic dimension, with a building that shrinks into a suitcase and a car chase conducted at several sizes at once.
What it gets right is keeping the stakes domestic. Scott is under house arrest with an ankle monitor and two days left on a sentence, and most of the tension is about whether an FBI agent will catch him out of the house. A superhero film in which the hero's main problem is a parole violation is a good joke sustained for two hours.
Evangeline Lilly is finally given the suit the previous film withheld and is the more competent of the two. Hannah John-Kamen's Ghost has a genuine motive and is resolved too easily. Michelle Pfeiffer's arrival in the last act matters later.
