The Defenders Saga watch order

Thirteen seasons across six shows, and for once the date order is the right order.

Updated 9 August 2026 · 13 titles tracked

The good news first: watch them by date and you have the intended order. Netflix scheduled these to interleave, so Jessica Jones landed between the two Daredevil seasons and the four solo runs converge on The Defenders without you having to arrange anything.

That makes the only real question what to leave out, because six of the thirteen seasons are safe to drop.

The short version

Daredevil season 1, Jessica Jones season 1, Daredevil season 2, Luke Cage season 1, The Defenders, The Punisher season 1, Daredevil season 3. Seven seasons, and that is the throughline.

Everything else is optional. If you only want the part that still matters, it is the three Daredevil seasons and The Defenders.

Iron Fist is the one to skip

Season one is the weakest thing here by common agreement, and it is the only solo run whose setup The Defenders re-explains for you. You lose almost nothing by going straight from Luke Cage to the crossover.

Season two is genuinely better, being shorter, tighter, and with the fight choreography the first season was missing. Almost nobody found that out, because of the first season.

Where Frank Castle starts

Not in his own show. The Punisher is introduced in Daredevil season two, which is his origin in this continuity, and his own series assumes you have seen it.

That thread continues on Disney+ rather than here: Frank returns in Daredevil: Born Again, then in The Punisher: One Last Kill, then in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

How it connects to Daredevil: Born Again

Daredevil season three is the one to have seen. Born Again picks up from it directly, with the same Matt Murdock and the same Kingpin, and the intervening years are treated as having happened.

You can start at Born Again cold and follow it. You will not know why any of it lands.

A note on where these sit in the MCU

Loosely, and the shows prefer it that way. They are set in the same New York and reference the films in passing, but they never pin themselves to a date and no official timeline places them precisely.

This site keeps them as their own run rather than interleaving them with the films, because interleaving would mean inventing a precision that does not exist.

Common questions

What order should I watch the Netflix Marvel shows in?

Release order, which is also the intended order: Daredevil 1, Jessica Jones 1, Daredevil 2, Luke Cage 1, Iron Fist 1, The Defenders, The Punisher 1, then the later seasons by date.

Can I skip Iron Fist?

Yes. Season one is the weakest of the six shows and The Defenders re-explains what you need from it. Season two is much better if you ever want to come back.

Do I need to watch these before Daredevil: Born Again?

Not to follow it, but Born Again continues directly from Daredevil season three with the same cast and history. That season is the one worth seeing first.

Where does the Punisher first appear?

Daredevil season two, which is his origin in this continuity. His own series assumes you have watched it.

How many Netflix Marvel seasons are there?

Thirteen across six shows: three of Daredevil, three of Jessica Jones, two of Luke Cage, two of Iron Fist, two of The Punisher and one of The Defenders. 161 episodes in total.

Are the Netflix shows MCU canon?

Marvel now treats them that way. Charlie Cox and Vincent D. Onofrio carried their roles into the Disney+ material, and Daredevil: Born Again continues the same story.
