Every Spider-Man actor, in order
Three live-action Peter Parkers across twenty-four years, three separate continuities, and one film that puts all three of them in the same room.
Updated 9 August 2026 · 12 titles tracked
Unlike Batman, this one has a tidy answer: three actors, three continuities, in a straight line. Tobey Maguire, then Andrew Garfield, then Tom Holland.
What makes it worth a page is the ending. Spider-Man: No Way Home brings all three together in one film, which means the two older runs stopped being replaced continuities and became places the current one can reach.

The three, and their runs
Each replaced the one before it, until the third stopped replacing and started collecting.
- Tobey Maguire (2002–2007). Sam Raimi’s trilogy. A fourth was written and cancelled, which is why it ends where it does.
- Andrew Garfield (2012–2014). The Amazing Spider-Man and its sequel. A reboot five years after the last Raimi film, cut short after two.
- Tom Holland (2016– ); the MCU version, introduced in someone else’s film and still going.
Holland’s Spider-Man is not only in Spider-Man films
This is the part that makes his run harder to follow than the other two. He debuts in Captain America: Civil War, and appears in Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame: three films with no Spider-Man in the title, and two of them are where the largest things happen to him.
Watching only the four solo films leaves gaps that those three fill, which is why they are on the list above.
How all three end up in one film
No Way Home is built on the idea that the earlier films happened. Somewhere else. Maguire and Garfield return as their own Peter Parkers, not as recastings, and the film treats their histories as real.
You do not have to have seen the older films for it to work, but almost everything it does emotionally depends on recognising them. It is the rare crossover where the homework genuinely changes the film.
Not covered here: the animated ones
Shameik Moore voices Miles Morales across the Spider-Verse films, and Miles is Spider-Man. Just not Peter Parker. Those films are on the site as their own continuity, and they carry a much larger cast of Spider-People than this page could usefully list.
Sony’s other films (the Venom trilogy, Morbius, Madame Web, Kraven) contain no Spider-Man at all, which is most of what people want to know about them.
Common questions
How many actors have played Spider-Man?
Three in live-action film: Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland. All three appear together in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Shameik Moore voices Miles Morales in the animated Spider-Verse films.
Do I need to watch the Maguire and Garfield films before No Way Home?
Not to follow the plot. But nearly everything the film does emotionally rests on recognising those two Peter Parkers and knowing what happened to them, so it lands very differently if you have seen them.
Which Spider-Man films are part of the MCU?
The four Tom Holland solo films; Homecoming, Far From Home, No Way Home and Brand New Day. He also appears in Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
Is Miles Morales Spider-Man?
Yes. He is a different person under the mask rather than a different actor playing Peter Parker, and his films are animated and their own continuity.
Are the Venom films connected to Spider-Man?
Not in any way that puts Spider-Man in them. They are Sony’s separate universe, and no Spider-Man appears in the trilogy.
