Final Destination 5 ends with a reveal that reframes the entire series. Watching by in-universe date throws that away before it can land.

Why not chronological order
Final Destination 5 is a prequel, and it does not tell you until the final minutes. Its survivors board a plane, and the plane is Flight 180 — the one from the opening of the 2000 original.
Watched fifth, as released, it recontextualises everything you have seen. Watched first, it is a decent horror film with an ending you saw coming an hour earlier.
That is the whole argument. Release order, every time.
Which ones are worth it
The 2000 original for the premise, Final Destination 2 for the log-truck opening — still the best set piece in the series and genuinely upsetting to drive behind afterwards — and Final Destination 5 for the ending.
The Final Destination (the fourth, confusingly titled) was built for 3D and has very little else going on. It is the one to skip.
Bloodlines
The 2025 revival arrived fourteen years after Final Destination 5, built around a family curse passed down generations. It is the first entry to expand the mythology rather than repeat the formula.
