Greta Gerwig movies in order
Three solo features, the biggest film of 2023, and Narnia next.

Nothing connects, so order is free — but there is a genuinely better sequence here than release order, because Lady Bird makes the other two read differently.
A note on counting: she is credited as co-director on Nights and Weekends (2008) with Joe Swanberg, a decade before Lady Bird. Most filmographies quietly skip it. It is listed here because it exists.

Start with Lady Bird
Her solo debut, set in the Sacramento she grew up in, about a teenager and her mother failing to say what they mean to each other. It got five Oscar nominations including Best Director — she was the fifth woman ever nominated in that category.
It is the smallest of the three and the one that shows you what she is actually interested in.
Then Little Women, then Barbie
Little Women (2019) restructures the Alcott novel into two interleaved timelines — childhood and adulthood, cut against each other. That is not a stylistic flourish; it is what makes the ending work, and it is the single best directorial decision in her filmography.
Barbie (2023) grossed over 1.4 billion dollars and was the first film directed solely by a woman to pass a billion. Watched after the other two, it is clearly the same film-maker asking the same question at a much louder volume.
Narnia is next
She is directing Narnia: The Magician's Nephew for Netflix — the origin story rather than The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, which is an unusual choice and a deliberate one.
It is dated for 12 February 2027 in cinemas including IMAX, with a Netflix release following on 2 April 2027. Netflix has committed to a full wide theatrical window, which it does not normally do.
The acting and writing credits
She co-wrote Frances Ha (2012) and Mistress America (2015) with Noah Baumbach and starred in both, and co-wrote Barbie with him too. She acts in far more films than she directs, including Baumbach's White Noise and Wes Anderson's Isle of Dogs.
None of those are hers as director, so none are listed above.
