Why Breaking Dawn is two films
The fourth book was split across two releases, a year apart — the same move Harry Potter and The Hunger Games both made with their finales.
Part 1 covers the wedding, the honeymoon and the pregnancy, and ends mid-story. Part 2 is the Volturi confrontation. They are one film in two halves and should be watched together.
Can you skip any?
Not really — the story is continuous and each film assumes the last. New Moon is the slowest of the five and the one people most often want to skip, but it establishes the Jacob relationship that drives everything afterwards.
What about Midnight Sun?
The 2020 novel retells the first book from Edward's perspective. No film adaptation has been announced, so there is nothing to slot in.
