Can you skip Shazam! Fury of the Gods?
Yes, on a first watch. It is self-contained, and nothing in the main DC story depends on it. What it does leave behind is two scenes during the credits. In chronological order, reaching it takes about 32h 21m of essential viewing across 15 titles. Show only the DC essentials.
Skippable, and the thing it loses is exactly what made the first film work. That one was a story about a boy in foster care who did not believe anybody would keep him; this gives the whole family powers, moves the action to a destroyed city, and replaces the domestic material with a plot about three goddesses and a stolen staff.
Zachary Levi is still enjoying himself and the script gives him less to do with it. Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu are plainly having a good time in a film that has no idea what register to put them in, and the third sister's subplot is the only part that tries for something.
The scale is the error. A film whose best scenes were two teenagers testing powers in a convenience store now has a dome over Philadelphia, a dragon, and unicorns, and none of it has any weight. The budget is visible and the invention is not.
It arrived in the window between one regime ending and another beginning, with no appetite left for the continuity, and performed accordingly. Nothing depends on it.
