Can you skip Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania?
No. It carries part of the main MCU throughline, and what comes after it assumes you have seen it. The next essential title is Secret Invasion. In chronological order, reaching it takes about 53h 29m of essential viewing across 29 titles. See the full MCU order.
Marked essential because it was built as the formal introduction of the Multiverse Saga's antagonist, and it is the weakest film in Phase Five. The plan it set up was subsequently abandoned, which leaves it stranded: a film whose entire purpose was to launch something that did not happen.
The decision that damages it most is abandoning the series' scale. Two previous Ant-Man films worked because the stakes were a family in San Francisco and the comedy came from size against ordinary objects. This moves the whole cast into a digital realm for two hours, where nothing has a reference point and everything is rendered, and the central joke stops functioning.
Jonathan Majors is good in it, playing an exiled conqueror with real menace, and the scene where he explains what he has done and why he is stranded is the best in the film. Everything around him is green-screen landscapes and a rebellion of creatures the audience has no reason to care about.
Michael Douglas gets a reveal about his wife's past that is handled as a joke. Watch it only if you want the Kang material in full, and know that the franchise moved on from it.
