Can you skip The Marvels?
No. It carries part of the main MCU throughline, and what comes after it assumes you have seen it. The next essential title is VisionQuest. In chronological order, reaching it takes about 57h 44m of essential viewing across 33 titles. See the full MCU order.
Marked essential, and it is the film on this page with the heaviest homework for the shortest running time: it follows three separate productions, Captain Marvel, WandaVision and Ms. Marvel, and a viewer who has watched none of them will not know who two of the three leads are.
At a hundred and five minutes it is the shortest film in the franchise and it moves accordingly. The central device, that the three swap places whenever they use their powers at the same moment, is a genuinely good action idea, and the sequence where they first work it out and have to choreograph a fight around it is the best in the film.
It is also unusually silly in a way that is mostly welcome. There is a planet where everybody communicates by singing, a sequence of cats swallowing an entire space station set to a show tune, and a tone much lighter than Captain Marvel's. Iman Vellani is the best thing in it, playing a fan who cannot believe she is in the room.
The villain is thin, the plot about a stolen bangle and a dying sun is functional, and it performed worse than anything else Marvel has released. It is a great deal more enjoyable than that suggests.
