Can you skip Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man (Season 1)?
Yes, on a first watch. It is self-contained, and nothing in the main MCU story depends on it. Come back to it later if you want more. In chronological order, reaching it takes about 68h 16m of essential viewing across 41 titles. Show only the MCU essentials.
Skippable, and it sits in its own universe, so nothing in the films depends on it and it depends on nothing. It was originally developed as a prequel to the Tom Holland films and reconceived as an alternate continuity during production, which is why the first episode has a Doctor Strange cameo and the rest has nothing.
The premise is a slow origin. This is Peter's first year, told across ten episodes rather than compressed into an act, so the series has room for him being bad at it: the costume is improvised from sportswear for several episodes, the web-shooters fail, and his finances are a running concern.
The substitution at the centre is the good idea. Norman Osborn takes the mentor role that Tony Stark held in the films, which means a teenager is being funded and guided by a man the audience knows will become his worst enemy, and the series plays that dread patiently rather than rushing it.
The animation is styled after 1960s and 70s comic art, with halftone textures and limited palettes, and it looks unlike anything else carrying the name. The pace is slow in the middle stretch. A second season follows.
