Can you skip Ironheart?
Yes, on a first watch. It is self-contained, and nothing in the main MCU story depends on it. Come back to it later if you want more. In chronological order, reaching it takes about 61h 48m of essential viewing across 38 titles. Show only the MCU essentials.
Skippable, and it had an unusually long wait: shot in 2022, released three years later into a slate that had moved on. Riri Williams was introduced in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which is worth having seen but is not required.
The best decision is making it a crime story rather than a superhero one. Riri is expelled, broke, back in Chicago, and takes work with a crew of thieves because they will fund her research, and the first half is about a brilliant young woman making a series of defensible compromises. Dominique Thorne is good and the Chicago specificity is welcome.
The turn in the second half is where opinion divides. The series moves from technology into magic, with a figure whose bargain is explicitly supernatural, and the shift is abrupt enough that it reads as two shows spliced. Anthony Ramos is excellent as the man making the offer.
The grief underneath it, a friend who died and a suit built partly to avoid thinking about it, is handled well. Six episodes, released in two batches. Nothing else so far requires it, though the last scene plainly intends to matter.
